Whew!  Heat and more heat!  Thankfully we are getting a break this week.  I
guess it could be worse and we could have the 20+" of snow that we had last
winter.

Snap bags, made using metal tape measures (see the Design Board), tote bags
and projects made with printed panels seem to have been the hot topics over
the last couple of months.  All make quick and easy gifts.

Plans are in the works for this year's Tour de Quilt so mark your calendars for
October 14,15, 16 and 17 this year.  9 shops
are on the Tour this year so put
your walking shoes on.   www.tourdequilt.com

The Blue R
idge Parkway is 75 years young this year and is celebrating by
creating a quilt of all the locations up and down the parkway.   Nelson County's
contribution is a quilt block depicting the agricultural nature of the county and
the fact that mile post zero - the starting point for the parkway - is in Nelson
County.  Stitches and Shavings was asked to provide the block for the county.
We will have a picture of the block up soon.  With all the different localities
making their own block, it will be interesting to see what the final quilt looks like.
More information on the parkway and its birthday can be found at:

With over 1000 bolts of fabric, notions, thread and books I'm sure we have an
item or two that would interest everyone.  We also offer selected jewelry,
handcrafted pens and mechanical pencils, quilt racks, hand turned wooden
thimbles and quilt hangers.  Visit the Pens & Other Page to view samples of items
we've made.  Special orders are always welcome.
